Frequently Asked Questions

Is Pagehound a subscription?

No. Pagehound Pro is a one-time purchase of $39.99. No recurring fees, no subscription. Your license includes all v1.x updates forever — if a v2 ever ships, it will be a separate product with discounted upgrade pricing for existing customers.

What is free, and what does Pro unlock?

The free version is not a trial — it runs full-quality OCR with no time limit and no signup. It processes single documents, up to the first 5 pages per document. A one-time purchase unlocks unlimited pages plus batch processing, automatic rotation/deskew/perspective correction, custom vocabulary, watch-folder automation, presets, PDF/A-ready export, and exportable processing reports.

How much does Pagehound cost?

Pagehound Pro is a one-time purchase of $39.99, available both on the Mac App Store (with Family Sharing) and directly from novetool.com via Creem (up to 3 Macs). Both unlock the same Pro features.

Are my files uploaded to any server?

No. Recognition runs entirely on your Mac using Apple's on-device Vision engine — nothing is uploaded, no account is required, and no telemetry is collected. The app even shows on-screen that a session produced zero network requests. The Mac App Store build contains no networking code at all.

Which macOS versions are supported?

Pagehound requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later. It is a Universal binary that runs natively on both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs. The first run takes about 8 seconds to load the recognition model — this is normal.

My scans are crooked or sideways. Can Pagehound fix them?

Yes. With Pro, pages are set upright automatically, tilted pages are straightened, and keystone perspective from phone photos is corrected — all previewable page by page before you commit. Four strength levels are available, and the conservative default never erases faint stamps or signatures.

Will OCR damage or bloat my original PDF?

No. Pagehound never re-encodes your original page images, so file size stays essentially unchanged and your pages look pixel-identical. Originals are never overwritten — output goes to a new {name}_searchable.pdf — and bookmarks and outlines are preserved.

How accurate is the recognition?

On clean printed text, recognition is excellent. On degraded scans, preprocessing improves results, and low-confidence words are flagged so you know where to double-check. Pagehound is built to make documents searchable, not to replace manual data entry — always verify critical numbers against the original image, which stays untouched.

What languages are supported?

More than 30, including Simplified & Traditional Chinese, English, Japanese, Korean, Russian, French, German, and Spanish. Select multiple languages or use auto-detection. A language-correction switch can be turned off for serial numbers and codes.

Is there a page count or file size limit?

The free version processes the first 5 pages per document; Pro removes the limit entirely. Files beyond 2,000 pages or 500 MB are rejected with a clear error instead of spinning for hours. Password-protected PDFs are supported.

Where is my license key stored?

For the direct (DMG) version, your license key is delivered by email immediately after purchase and activated inside the app. Verification is offline — the key is Ed25519-signed and checked locally, with a 30-day grace window, so no online account is required. One license covers up to 3 Macs, and you can unbind a Mac yourself at any time. For the App Store version, the purchase is tied to your Apple ID — no license key needed.

What is the difference between the App Store and Direct versions?

The features are identical, and both unlock all Pro capabilities. The App Store version uses Apple's StoreKit and supports Family Sharing. The Direct version checks out securely through Creem, and its license activates on up to 3 Macs with self-service unbinding. Choose whichever purchasing method you prefer.
