Frequently Asked Questions

Is Renamely a subscription?

No. Renamely is a one-time purchase. No recurring fees, no subscription. Buy once and use it forever.

What is free, and what does Pro unlock?

The free version is not a trial — it has no time limit and no file-count limit. Prefix, suffix, sequence numbering, case conversion, plain find & replace, and name filtering are free forever. A one-time purchase unlocks five Pro features: regular-expression replace with capture groups, EXIF shooting-date naming, Include Subfolders, extension filtering, and Presets.

How much does Renamely cost?

Renamely Pro is a one-time purchase of $14.99, available both on the Mac App Store (with Family Sharing) and directly from novetool.com via Creem (up to 3 Macs). Both unlock the same Pro features.

Can Renamely rename files inside subfolders?

Yes. With Include Subfolders (Pro) enabled, Renamely walks the whole folder tree and renames files in place — SubA/a.jpg becomes SubA/n_a.jpg. Your folder structure is never flattened, and files with the same name in different folders are handled independently, so nothing ever collides.

Which macOS versions are supported?

Renamely requires macOS 12 Monterey or later. It is a Universal binary that runs natively on both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs.

Will I get free updates?

Yes. Minor bug-fix and feature updates are included free with your purchase. Any future major version upgrades will be offered at a discounted rate for existing customers.

Are my files uploaded to any server?

No. All file processing runs locally on your Mac. Renamely never uploads, collects, or reads the contents of your files. The Mac App Store build contains no networking code at all; the direct (DMG) version only contacts novetool.com when you manually choose Check for Updates.

What is your refund policy?

Direct purchases via Creem are backed by a 30-day money-back guarantee. If Renamely does not work for you, contact us within 30 days for a full refund. App Store purchases are governed by Apple's refund policy.

Where is my license key stored?

For the direct (DMG) version, your license key is delivered by email immediately after purchase and activated inside the Renamely app. Verification is offline — the key is Ed25519-signed and checked locally, so no online account is required. One license covers up to 3 Macs, and you can unbind a Mac yourself at any time. For the App Store version, the purchase is tied to your Apple ID — no license key needed.

What is the difference between the App Store and Direct versions?

The features are identical, and both unlock all Pro capabilities. The App Store version uses Apple's StoreKit and supports Family Sharing. The Direct version checks out securely through Creem, and its license activates on up to 3 Macs with self-service unbinding. Choose whichever purchasing method you prefer.

Does Renamely support special characters in filenames?

Yes. Renamely handles both NFC and NFD Unicode encodings, so accented characters like é, ü, ñ, and à are processed correctly without corruption or data loss. Japanese, Chinese, emoji, and very long filenames are all safe too.

Can Renamely rename photos using the EXIF date taken?

Yes. Choose the "Format with Date" strategy (Pro) and pick "Date Taken (EXIF)" to turn camera files like DSLR_5001.JPG into archive names like 2025-06-15_001.jpg — or insert the date before or after the original name. JPEG, HEIC, TIFF, and camera RAW files are supported, including EXIF timezone offsets. Files without photo metadata (screenshots, scans, text files) automatically fall back to the file creation date.
