Frequently Asked Questions

Is Textveil a subscription?

No. Textveil Pro costs $39.99. One-time purchase. Includes all future updates — no recurring fees, no subscription.

What is free, and what does Pro unlock?

The free version is not a trial — it runs full-quality OCR with no time limit and no signup. It processes single documents, up to the first 5 pages per document. A one-time purchase unlocks unlimited pages plus batch processing, automatic rotation/deskew/perspective correction, custom vocabulary, watch-folder automation, presets, PDF/A-ready export, and exportable processing reports.

How much does Textveil cost?

Textveil Pro is a one-time purchase of $39.99, available now directly from novetool.com via Creem (up to 3 Macs). A Mac App Store version with Family Sharing is coming soon and will unlock the same Pro features.

Are my files uploaded to any server?

No. Recognition runs entirely on your Mac using Apple's on-device Vision engine — nothing is uploaded, no account is required, and no telemetry is collected. The Mac App Store build makes no network requests at all. The Direct build contacts the license server to validate your key and novetool.com to check for updates; your documents are never sent.

Which macOS versions are supported?

Textveil requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later. It is a Universal binary that runs natively on both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs. The first run takes a few seconds to load the recognition model — this is normal.

My scans are crooked or sideways. Can Textveil fix them?

Yes. With Pro, pages are set upright automatically, tilted pages are straightened, and keystone perspective from phone photos is corrected — all previewable page by page before you commit. Four strength levels are available, and the conservative default does not actively remove faint stamps or signatures.

Will OCR damage or bloat my original PDF?

No. Pages that do not need perspective correction keep their original image byte-for-byte, so file size stays essentially unchanged. Pages where perspective correction is enabled are re-rendered as grayscale bitmaps. Originals are never overwritten — output goes to a new {name}_searchable.pdf — and bookmarks and outlines are preserved.

How accurate is the recognition?

On clean printed text, recognition is excellent. On degraded scans, preprocessing improves results. Textveil is built to make documents searchable, not to replace manual data entry — always verify critical numbers against the original image. Originals are never overwritten, and pages are only re-rendered when you turn on perspective correction.

What languages are supported?

13 languages: English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Russian, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Vietnamese, and Ukrainian. Select multiple languages or use auto-detection. A language-correction switch is off by default and can be turned on for serial numbers and codes.

Is there a page count or file size limit?

The free version processes the first 5 pages per document; Pro removes the limit entirely. Files beyond 2,000 pages or 500 MB are rejected with a clear error instead of spinning for hours. Password-protected PDFs are supported.

Where is my license key stored?

For the direct (DMG) version, your license key is delivered by email immediately after purchase and activated inside the app. The key is validated online through Creem's licensing service, with a 30-day offline grace window so the app keeps working without a connection. One license covers up to 3 Macs, and you can unbind a Mac yourself at any time. For the App Store version, the purchase is tied to your Apple ID — no license key needed.

What is the difference between the App Store and Direct versions?

The features will be identical, and both unlock all Pro capabilities. The Mac App Store version is coming soon and will use Apple's StoreKit with Family Sharing. The Direct version is available now: it checks out securely through Creem and activates on up to 3 Macs with self-service unbinding. Choose whichever purchasing method you prefer once both are available.
